Ministry of Natural Resources – CL-415 Water Bomber
The CIAS is thrilled to have the return of the Ministry Natural Resources (MNR) CL-415 Water Bomber for the 75th Anniversary. Within the Ministry the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services Branch (AFFES) provides emergency management planning, preparedness, and response for the seven types of emergencies that the MNR is accountable for: forest fires, floods, erosion, dam failures, unstable soil and bedrock, droughts/low water, and oil and gas emergencies.
While more than half of the air fleet is dedicated to forest fire work in the summer, the multi-service air fleet also supports specialized wildlife surveys, fish stocking, and rabies prevention. Providing an incredible demonstration of the heavy water bombing for fire fighting is one of their 9 Canadair CL-415 water bombers. The CL-415 water bomber is a heavy amphibious aircraft purpose-built for collecting large quantities of water from natural water bodies, such as lakes, and dropping the water from the air onto forest fires.
